Sylvain Gélinas

Born deaf and diagnosed with Usher syndrome at age 14, Sylvain Gélinas (he/him) developed a passion for cinema during childhood. As a director, screenwriter, and actor, he is heavily invested in the Deaf community.

In 1999, he founded Cinéall, an inclusive video production company. After graduating with a cinema degree from Collège Rosemont in 2005, he directed around twenty productions, including short and feature films, as well as sign language translations.

His work shines internationally at festivals like Clin d’Oeil, SignLight, and FICAM. Among his successes, the short film Bravo! won Best Experimental Film in 2015. More recently, Kylvan, the Deaf Pup won 5 awards, including the Deaf Audience Award at FICAM in 2024.

Today, Sylvain aims to dedicate himself fully to his dual artistic career. Alongside his team, he continues to create a unique "Deaf cinema," determined to break down barriers in the audiovisual industry.
