Achraf El Abed

About

A product designer by training, Achraf El Abed is a passionate dancer, bringing hip-hop, modern jazz, contemporary and voguing influences into his unique dance style. Achraf combines this array of training into his choreography, while remaining faithful to the traditionally feminine Tunisian folk form known (in the West) as "bell-dancing". Achraf has been featured in numerous stage shows, including "Lasmer Tounsi" by Mounir El Argui and "Nouba" by Fadhel El Jazir. He also choreographed and performed in the major variety shows "Zine et Aziz" and "Erboukh". In 2019, he created his own show "Howa Walla Heya" at the opening ceremony of the Mawjoudin Queer Film Festival. Another highlightin his ascendent career: headlining the multidisciplinary show "Disco Al Arabi", which toured Tunisia, Dubai, and Germany. In 2022, Achraf El Abed left his native country to seek asylum in Canada, where he has pursued his passion and performed regularly since at Festival du Monde Arabe, Orientalys, and Errances (to name a few) and been featured in events such as Laylit and Montréal party event Haram.
