A software engineer by training and IT Project Manager by trade, Samatar, along with his partner Christophe, is the father of two daughters, Sarah, 8, and Emma, 4, through surrogacy. A member and volunteer of the LGBT+ Family Coalition since 2014, Samatar firmly believes in collective action, in the intersectionality of LGBT+ and BIPOC identities as well as the intergenerational transmission of knowledge and skills within the LGBT+ community. In this capacity, he has participated in and/or led, for many years, a workshop for future LGBT+ parents on the subject of surrogacy. This is with the aim of facilitating access to parenthood by informing LGBT+ people about the possible paths to starting their family through his own experience as well as that of a panel of parents with diverse and multiples backgrounds and surrogates.
