Gabrielle M.A.

About

Gabrielle M.A., also known as Les banalités d’une anxieuse, is a Haitian-Quebecer artist-creator specializing in the creation of spaces rooted in radical, raw honesty.

A literary performer since 2018 (Cabaret des sorcières, Off-poésie de Trois-Rivières), she launched the staged reading series Black is the warmest color that same year, offering a platform to francophone Afro-Montreal artists in partnership with Massimadi and Mémoire d’encrier. This initiative led to her first play, Rejoindre les étoiles, which she co-wrote and starred in at the 2019 ZH Festival.

Following a hiatus, she joined Concordia University’s Performance Creation program in 2024. Her practice, grounded in staging intimacy, creates mirror moments that explore her identity intersections. Her manifesto summarizes her approach:"Let me brutalize you with my unfiltered love. […] See yourself from the brutality of my honesty […] it is not mine anymore. It is ours."
