J. Marchand Knight

About

Opéra Queens founding artist J. Marchand Knight (they/she/him) is a treble Zwischenfach operatic singer, composer, and researcher defying Fach with a virtuosic three-octave plus range. Performances among many include numerous Montreal performances where they are based as well as Rome, Salzburg, and Carnegie Hall. J.’s OQ repertoire includes the title roles of Handel’s “Giulio Cesare” and “Agrippina” as well as Don José (Bizet’s “Carmen”) and Nurse Filipyevna (Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”). Recently composed operas include Opéra Queens commission “Cleopatra Built” as well as “mixed messages, no pants”.

Passionate about EDI, J. was a 2019 Award for Equity and Community Building recipient for their work with McGill’s Subcommittee on Queer People and with the Schulich School of Music’s accessibility initiatives. J. holds an ACS in Audio Recording Technology, a Master’s in Opera Performance, a DMA in Vocal Pedagogy, and is currently completing a PhD at Concordia in Pure Science (INDI).
