Award-winning Atikamekw artist Laura Niquay (she/her), from Wemotaci, is celebrated for her unique voice and powerful folk-grunge sound. Her acclaimed 2021 album Waska Matisiwin made the Polaris Prize Long List and earned multiple awards, including at ADISQ and the Teweikan Gala. In 2024, she released Comptines Atikamekw – E Aistahiak (The Six Seasons), a nursery rhyme album in her Indigenous language to support language transmission. As she works on her next album, set for release in the fall of 2026, Laura presents Nir Wactenama (“I, the Light”), an emotionally resonant live show with blues influences, led by an all-female band — a tribute to resilience and Indigenous women’s power.
