Intergenerational dialogue: our memories of HIV | Archives gaies du Québec
Archives gaies du Québec and Fierté Montréal are proud to welcome you to an intergenerational discussion between a moderator and three HIV-positive panelists.
The objective of the meeting is to share the panelists' experiences in a free and authentic way.
This dialogue, rich in stories and experiences, reminds us that AIDS is not just a medical issue: it's a social, human and intergenerational one. Listening and sharing are essential keys to building collective awareness, still today.
For more than four decades, AIDS has been shaping societies, affecting millions of people (1.3 million people were infected in 2023 according to UNAIDS) in very different ways, depending on place and time. Once synonymous of shame, HIV has now been brought under control thanks to medical advances. Yet despite progress, challenges remain: unequal access to care, persistent prejudice and the gradual forgetting of past struggles.
To hear about the history of AIDS is to become aware of the discrimination that surrounded it, the citizen mobilizations that changed the world, and the solidarity that grew out of this fight. To discuss AIDS today is to create a bridge between eras: an intergenerational dialogue essential to building a more united, better-informed future that doesn't turn the page on the past.
This conference is interpreted in Langue des Signes Québécoise (LSQ).
