Exhibit: Unveiling the Queer Italian-Canadian Experience
A collaboration between Toronto photographer Vincenzo Pietropaolo and Montreal author/poet Liana Cusmano, Unveiling the Queer-Italian-Canadian Experience is a creative, intergenerational, and cross-gender exploration of queer space from the perspective of a young queer writer and an older ally to the community.
Despite the advances and acceptance of queer culture within the mainstream, queerness is still often considered a social taboo within the Italian community. Through a combination of photography and literary prose, this exhibit will explore what it means to be queer and Italian-Canadian, by documenting queer Italian-Canadians living in Montreal in spaces that hold personal significance for them.
The exhibit runs from July 27th to August 20th at the Casa d’Italia (505 Rue Jean-Talon East), every day from 1 PM to 6 PM.
A co-presentation between Fierté Montréal, ItalfestMTL and Violet Hour.
