Queer Journeys in Rural Areas: What Realities Between Québec and Europe?
A panel presented in collaboration with Festival de films CINEMANIA and Fierté Montréal, in partnership with the European Union through its delegation based in Canada.
While 2SLGBTQIA+ realities outside major urban centres often remain overlooked, this panel brings together researchers, activists, and artists from Europe and Québec to discuss queer experiences in rural and regional settings.
What does it mean to live one’s difference away from the city? What challenges persist in terms of acceptance, resources, and visibility? And what forms of resilience, creativity, and activism are emerging in these peripheral contexts?
Through a comparative lens between Québec and various European Union countries, we will explore the similarities, differences, and unique dynamics present in non-urban environments. This panel aims to build transatlantic bridges, foster dialogue, and shed light on the complex geographic dimensions of sexual and gender diversity.
