FeminiX Day on August 6: A Conference, Show and After-party By and For Queer Women
Ariane Moffatt to Perform with Sarahmée, Laura Niquay, Calamine, DJ Kris Tin and DJ Sam at the Esplanade of the Olympic Park
Montréal, June 16, 2022 – The Montréal Pride Festival, presented by TD in collaboration with Casino de Montréal, announces FeminiX, an electrifying show presented by Fido and headlined by 2SLGBTQIA+ female performers, on August 6 at 4 p.m. at the Esplanade of the Olympic Park. Prior to the performance, a conference on 2SLGBTQIA+ women of influence will take place at 2 p.m., and starting at 11 p.m., an eclectic after-party will top off the celebration.
Spotlight on 2SLGBTQIA+ Women
“With FeminiX, the Montréal Pride Festival aims to recognize sexually and gender diverse women, and honor them through this dedicated program,” said Simon Gamache, Executive Director of Montréal Pride. “FeminiX is a festive and inclusive gathering for 2SLGBTQIA+ women and their allies, that will highlight and remind us of their contributions to society, their realities and specially, their immense talent,” he added.
2SLGBTQIA+ Women and Artists
Ariane Moffatt will join a host of artists including the ADISQ’s Revelation of the Year Sarahmée, Atikamekw singer-songwriter Laura Niquay, Radio-Canada’s 2021 Revelation rapper Calamine, and DJs DJ Kris Tin and DJ Sam. These accomplished women and artists from the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities promise to deliver vibrant, stunning, and very danceable performances! FeminiX promises to be a unique musical cocktail that will take the audience from pop to rap, and from indie to disco.
Energetic Musicians and DJs!
A versatile musician herself, Ariane Moffatt will take the stage with her Supergroupe de l’amitié concert accompanied by Marie-Pierre Arthur, Joseph Marchand, Alex McMahon, and Jean-Phi Goncalves. Fans of the singer-songwriter will be treated to her repertoire of pop and dance songs. Hip hop artist Sarahmée will share her lucid, feminist and anti-racist point of view about our society, and her music will make the audience party and dance. Laura Niquay will provide a glimpse into her folk-grunge universe with songs from her album “Waska Matisiwin (Circle of Life)“. Accompanied by six musicians and singing in Atikamekw, she will deliver a festive performance that will drive her audience on a roller coaster of emotions. Queer rapper Calamine, winner of a Félix-Leclerc Award and runner-up at the Francouvertes 2021 contest, will feature excerpts from her first album “Boulette Proof” in a performance that never fails to shake and move the audience. Lebanese-born and Montréal-raised, DJ Kris Tin knows how to get people moving with her passion for techno music and her fascination with the world of space, which have earned her a place of choice on Montreal’s local underground electronic scene. DJ Sam, who co-hosts the Queen and Queer evening events, spins a very eclectic mix of house music inspired by her origins and travels. All 2SLGBTQIA+ women relate to DJ Sam’s music!
Queer Women of Influence
The conference “Movers and Shakers” will feature a panel including Manon Massé, co-spokesperson for Québec Solidaire; Kahsennehawe Sky-Deer, Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke; Florence Gagnon, founder of the Lez Spread the Word platform; and Rachel Jean-Pierre, digital marketing specialist. Focusing on the contribution of 2SLBQTIA+ women to society, the event will take place at 2 p.m. at the Hyatt Place Montréal, 1415 Saint-Hubert Street.
LipstiX
Spinning for LipstiX, the after-party celebration, will be Italy’s DJ star trio, Strulle, along with local legends Montana and Empress Cissy Low, who will propel the revelers on the dance floor until the wee hours of the night at Club Soda, 1225 Saint-Laurent Street, starting at 11 p.m.
