On stage, Mélodie Noël Rousseau likes to transform her body and test its limits, something she does under the guise of her male alter-ego Rock Bière. Beaming theatrical spotlights into the world of drag kings, she played her own persona in Rock Bière: Le documentaire, a work directed by collaborator Geneviève Labelle that demystifies the still lesser-known art form.
Pleurer dans' Douche's most recent production Ciseaux was part of the 2022-2023 programme at the Espace Libre theatre. In this work, Rousseau and Labelle reappropriate lesbophobic clichés to comically invert broader power dynamics. In 2019, she founded the Festival Mots de la Rive, a playwriting event taking place in the Bas Saint-Laurent region.
Mélodie Noël Rousseau brings people together through her sometimes playful but always powerful art.
