About
Sandy El Bitar (she/her) is a Lebanese Canadian multidisciplinary artist, drama therapist, comedian and producer based in Montreal.
Her journey with humor began in 2008 as a clown doctor in healthcare settings, witnessing its impact on resilience. This led her to develop a therapeutic intervention blending humor and play to regulate emotions, build connections, and foster resilience.
In 2019, she received Concordia’s Student Award in Preventive Health Research for her work on resilience through humor. In Montreal, Sandy co-founded Abjad Howse, a collective of Arab artists, and debuted in Arabic stand-up before performing stand up in English in 2022. She also produces “Not for Laughs” - experimental events exploring the intersection of mental health, life enrichment, and the transformative power of art, play, and humor.
Her work challenges societal norms, promotes social impact, and fosters resilience in diverse communities.
